After years of neglect, it was ceded to Parks Canada in the late 1970s. Parks Canada has been continually restoring and improving the canal and adjacent land for now over 50 years. The completion of the Peel Basin area will allow for the fully integrated redevelopment that will include recreation, heritage education and essential urban connections. Peel Basin is an integral link to Montreal's growing downtown. The development of this zone will link downtown with Old Montreal, the Old Port, Griffintown and Point St-Charles as well as the old mills & locks into a seamless zone for growing recreation and discovery.<br \/>\nKey points<br \/>\nIntegrate path systems linking the Peel Canal and Basin to the surrounding city.
