The owners of this century-old Eastern Townships farmhouse wished to enjoy the panoramic view of the rolling hills. In collaboration with Thellend Fortin architectes, they undertook the expansion and renovation of their home.<\/p>\n
Grafted to the old building in the shape of a gallery, the extension follows a horizontal line that respects the structure\u2019s original silhouette. The new volume features a series of adjoining rooms, each offering a view of the mountains.<\/p>\n
Thellend Fortin architectes used the exterior wall covering as a unifying element; the new extension\u2019s vertical cladding contrasts with the bleached wood horizontal slats that cover the original building.<\/p>\n
Both structures preserve their unique identity while perfectly complementing each other. For the jury, this clever use of wood was the influencing factor; the wood was treated as a contemporary material with a story of its own.<\/p>\n
The story can also be told through the home\u2019s interior design. The covering material and the structure make one to create a seamless harmony between the rooms.
