Designed to serve the population of Mirabel as well as students from the nearby high school, the complex includes a 25 metre, 10-lane lap pool, a recreational pool, a wading pool, as well as water games and a water slide. A large universal changing room and two smaller gendered locker rooms serve its users. Upstairs, bleachers open onto the pool, and multi-purpose rooms allow Mirabel residents to gather for activities of all kinds, all in an environment suffused in natural light.<\/p>\n<p>The implantation of the new centre is carefully considered to take advantage of the orientation and sun conditions, but also to acknowledge the ecological characteristics of the site. The presence of a river on the south edge of the site for instance, created a challenge, but also an opportunity to highlight the biodiversity specific to the area.<\/p>\n<p>Upon arrival, the site paths guide the users towards the entrance of the building under a generous wood soffit. The glazed entrance hall is inspired by the vernacular architecture of porches typically seen surrounding the ancestral houses built in the community. With its colonnade and its expansive fenestration, this transitional space between interior and exterior becomes an informal gathering place offering both visual links towards the enclosure of the pools inside and towards the public plaza outside which serves as a collective public space for the users of the aquatic centre and the high school.<\/p>\n<p>Welcoming spaces bathed in natural light flow throughout the building, allowing users to remain in constant contact with the exterior landscape, regardless of their location in the building. Glazed on both sides, the entry hall opens on one side onto the furnished outdoor spaces and the river, and on the other, onto the natatorium or the universal changing room. This configuration reinforces the strong connection to the exterior, no matter where in the building or the conditions outside.<\/p>\n<p>On the second level, the bleachers offer views overlooking the natatorium and benefit from abundant natural light owing to the windows on three sides of the natatorium. La pr\u00e9sence d\u2019un ruisseau du c\u00f4t\u00e9 sud a ainsi engendr\u00e9 un d\u00e9fi, mais \u00e9galement une occasion de mettre en valeur la biodiversit\u00e9 propre au secteur.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00e8s l\u2019arriv\u00e9e sur le site, les sentiers paysagers guident les utilisateurs vers l\u2019entr\u00e9e du b\u00e2timent, sous une grande marquise rev\u00eatue de soffites de bois. En traversant les grandes portes vitr\u00e9es, les usagers d\u00e9bouchent sur le hall d\u2019entr\u00e9e, qui s\u2019inspire des porches ceinturant les maisons ancestrales de la r\u00e9gion. Avec sa colonnade, et ses grandes baies vitr\u00e9es cet espace de transition entre int\u00e9rieur et ext\u00e9rieur devient un lieu de rassemblement informel offrant autant des liens visuels vers l\u2019enceinte des bassins \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur que vers les am\u00e9nagements paysagers et la placette publique \u00e0 l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur. Fenestr\u00e9 de part et d\u2019autre, le porche s\u2019ouvre d\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9 sur les espaces ext\u00e9rieurs am\u00e9nag\u00e9s et le ruisseau, et de l\u2019autre, sur l\u2019enceinte de piscine ou les vestiaires. Cette disposition offre aux usagers l\u2019impression de se retrouver \u00e0 l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur, peu importe o\u00f9 ils se trouvent et peu importe la temp\u00e9rature ext\u00e9rieure et le temps de l\u2019ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9tage, les gradins offrent une vue plongeante vers les bassins et profitent de la lumi\u00e8re naturelle abondante gr\u00e2ce aux fen\u00eatres ceinturant l\u2019enceinte de la piscine.
