Our goal was to help Birks find their own identity through lighting, materials and finishes, and to help their own brand, Bijoux Birks, stand out in their space.<\/p>\n<p>The client: Birks is a Canadian luxury jewellery brand that was founded in 1879. Known for their iconic blue box, Birks is Canada\u2019s leading designer in fine jewellery and is recognized internationally for their incomparable quality.<\/p>\n<p>While developing this interior concept, we wanted to focus on incorporating the following four key elements: lighting, romance, merchandising and distinction.<\/p>\n<p>Lighting: Working through multiple lighting studies, we wanted to ensure the lighting not only made the merchandise glisten, but also helped guide the clients towards the bijoux Birks area and set the tone of the space.<\/p>\n<p>Romance: As buying Birks\u2019 jewelry can be a very personal and often special experience, we wanted to create a romantic and welcoming ambiance.<\/p>\n<p>Merchandising: Wanting to make the natural beauty of Birks\u2019 products shine even brighter, we studied and adjusted the custom millwork and showcases, incorporating custom lighting and different display heights to attract the eye of the consumer straight away.<\/p>\n<p>Distinction: In spaces where bijoux Birks is surrounded by third party brands, we have used the principles of chiaroscuro \u2013 an effect of contrast between light and dark \u2013 to highlight and draw the consumer to their area. We have also placed Bijoux Birks at the back of the space to ensure it is the focal point for clients as they walk in and is the core that holds all third-party brands together with the main goal of ensuring Birks is distinguishable and recognized.<\/p>\n<p>The main design elements we incorporated to achieve our project goal were: materials, custom millwork and lighting.<\/p>\n<p>Materials: To help us achieve the brand distinction and the principles of chiaroscuro within the space, we studied materials and created two different base palettes \u2013 one light for the Bijoux Birks area and one dark for the architectural elements in the third-party brands area. This created a clear border within the space, drawing clients into the Birks area before browsing third party brands. This new lighter palette also helped evolve and create a unique and recognizable identity for Bijoux Birks within the space.<\/p>\n<p>Millwork: We worked with a lighting specialist to study and develop a lighting system within the showcases to highlight the merchandise. Working with two different light temperatures, we designed a custom, sleek fixture that lights up the pieces without drawing any attention to the fixture itself or away from the jeweler. We worked hand in hand with the Birks team to create new display tables and showcases that would not only be updated to match the new concept but would also be updated to improve functionality for team members and clients. We established two different table heights to optimize the client\u2019s viewing experience and to facilitate the staff workflow. Nous avons \u00e9galement plac\u00e9 Bijoux Birks au fond de l\u2019espace pour qu\u2019il soit le point focal pour les clients lorsqu\u2019ils entrent et qu\u2019il soit le noyau qui maintient toutes les marques tierces ensemble avec l\u2019objectif principal d\u2019assurer que Birks se distingue et soit reconnu.<\/p>\n<p>Les \u00e9l\u00e9ments de conception principaux que nous avons utilis\u00e9s pour la conception de l\u2019espace sont les suivants<\/p>\n<p>Les principaux \u00e9l\u00e9ments de conception que nous avons incorpor\u00e9s pour atteindre l\u2019objectif de notre projet sont : les mat\u00e9riaux, la menuiserie sur mesure et l\u2019\u00e9clairage.<\/p>\n<p>Mat\u00e9riaux : Pour nous aider \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser la distinction de la marque et les principes du clair-obscur dans l\u2019espace, nous avons \u00e9tudi\u00e9 les mat\u00e9riaux et cr\u00e9\u00e9 deux palettes de base diff\u00e9rentes &#8211 ; une claire pour la zone Bijoux Birks et une fonc\u00e9e pour les \u00e9l\u00e9ments architecturaux de la zone des marques tierces. Cela a permis de cr\u00e9er une fronti\u00e8re claire dans l\u2019espace, attirant les clients dans la zone Birks avant de parcourir les marques tierces. Cette nouvelle palette plus claire a \u00e9galement permis de faire \u00e9voluer et de cr\u00e9er une identit\u00e9 unique et reconnaissable pour Bijoux Birks dans l\u2019espace.<br \/>\nMenuiserie : Nous avons travaill\u00e9 avec un sp\u00e9cialiste de l\u2019\u00e9clairage pour \u00e9tudier et d\u00e9velopper un syst\u00e8me d\u2019\u00e9clairage dans les vitrines afin de mettre en valeur la marchandise. En travaillant avec deux temp\u00e9ratures de lumi\u00e8re diff\u00e9rentes, nous avons con\u00e7u un luminaire personnalis\u00e9 et \u00e9l\u00e9gant qui \u00e9claire les pi\u00e8ces sans attirer l\u2019attention sur le luminaire lui-m\u00eame ou sur le bijoutier. Nous avons travaill\u00e9 main dans la main avec l\u2019\u00e9quipe de Birks pour cr\u00e9er de nouvelles tables d\u2019exposition et vitrines qui seraient non seulement mises \u00e0 jour pour correspondre au nouveau concept, mais aussi pour am\u00e9liorer la fonctionnalit\u00e9 pour les membres de l\u2019\u00e9quipe et les clients. Nous avons \u00e9tabli deux hauteurs de table diff\u00e9rentes afin d\u2019optimiser l\u2019exp\u00e9rience visuelle du client et de faciliter le travail du personnel.
