Folio Design&#8217;s authentic values succeeded in convincing them to entrust us with the design of their new clinic.<\/p>\n<p>The firm&#8217;s mandate was to assess the existing premises, develop a design strategy in line with the building&#8217;s constraints, while creating a completely revamped and thoughtful environment.<\/p>\n<p>The mission was to create a clinic that optimized space, providing enough treatment rooms to meet growing demand, while preserving patient comfort.<\/p>\n<p>The overall objective was to provide a welcoming and comfortable venue for a diverse clientele, including families, young children and the elderly. The space had to be inclusive, with familiar design elements aimed at soothing patients who were sometimes reluctant to see a dentist. User well-being was a priority.<br \/>\nFolio Design&#8217;s team took charge of surveying existing spaces, spatial strategy, creating a new conceptual identity, furniture selection, signage design, coordinating with the dental home for medical equipment, selecting materials and specifications, and producing all working drawings.<\/p>\n<p>BACKGROUND<br \/>\nThe Kirkland Clinic is located in an architecturally distinctive space, marked in particular by a large angled wall. Fluidity and user comfort were central to the thinking: with a cramped, irregular shape, the built environment alone was a major challenge. The design team succeeded in laying out the space efficiently, making us forget the predominant angle. The layout proposes a circular pathway that easily leads back to the reception area from two opposite points. The stericenter is placed in the center of the space, demonstrating technical excellence and transparency. The employee relaxation lounge is at the opposite end, offering a level of privacy to employees and sonic tranquility to exam rooms.<\/p>\n<p>The team developed a design that takes advantage of the layout. Contrasting elements in the corridors create a rhythm, highlighting curved shapes and accentuating floor coverings, reinforcing the clarity of the user path. The enveloping materiality creates a feeling of comfort at first glance. The layout offers customers various types of seating and waiting areas, guaranteeing comfort and tranquility during the period before a treatment.<\/p>\n<p>NEEDS &#038; FUNCTION<br \/>\nManaging the private and public spaces of a dental clinic is a priority. With the aim of preserving the tranquility of the patient area, the active reception area needed to be isolated, while maintaining the conviviality of the premises. The areas are separated by architectural elements of openwork wood and glass to ensure a calm environment. However, the children&#8217;s area, which fits perfectly into the spatial strategy, should not be overlooked. These box effects also offer comfort.<\/p>\n<p>For the sake of economy and performance, the exciting vault of the former layout (bank) was converted into an X-ray room. This solution saved costs and, above all, made use of exciting elements of the built environment, since the vault&#8217;s wall compositions matched the exposure control level of the exposed x-rays.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the new room was designed to provide a high level of comfort and performance.<\/p>\n<p>Coordination with the engineer was a big issue to both respect the desired aesthetics and acoustic comfort as well as thermal well-being to ensure a complete positive experience.<\/p>\n<p>WELL-BEING<br \/>\nThe project places a strong emphasis on the inclusion of all types of customers, as a visit to the dentist can be a significant source of stress for many people. To reduce the noise generated by the ventilation systems and improve comfort, the technical approach called for the use of an acoustic ceiling. The tiles used are high-performance and feature a texture that adds relief to the long, narrow corridors. The presence of biophilia manifests itself through textures and colors, reminding us of nature.<\/p>\n<p>FURNITURE &#038; ESTHETISM<br \/>\nArchitectural cabinetry forms the central pivot of our design approach. Wooden structures delineate waiting room zones, offering symbolic variations in different locations. The children&#8217;s area adopts a modern volumetry subtly reminiscent of a tree house, creating a corner specially reserved for them, without the need for further explanation. The aesthetics of the concept are based on the skilful use of materials combining different textures and a warm color palette. The curves help to create a welcoming atmosphere. The reception counter is cleverly divided into several zones, favoring quick, private consultations.<\/p>\n<p>LIGHTING<br \/>\nOur goal for the lighting strategy was to disassociate from clinical lighting for waiting and circulation areas. Punctuated, constant lighting in the corridors provides a rhythm dressing up the long circulations of the consultation area. Signage lighting defines reception areas and offers warmth and personality to waiting areas, always with the aim of maximizing the customer experience.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>QUALITY &#038; MATERIALS<br \/>\nA dental space that meets the highest standards of hygiene and sanitation while linking quality, functionality and aesthetics: this was the Folio Design team&#8217;s mission. Textures are brought to the fore in an enveloping, comforting materiality. Warm colors immediately offer a soothing environment for customers sometimes stressed by their visit to the dentist.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>HUMAN FACTORS<br \/>\nThe materials on offer feature enveloping shapes reminiscent of nature inspired by the principles of biophilia. These ensure a most organic sense of well-being. The spatial and conceptual organization allows visitors to feel on familiar ground, easily identifiable from the moment they enter. The customer path is judiciously detailed, leaving no room for uncertainty. Directional signage is accessible and ensures rapid comprehension. Visual contrasts are easy and inclusive for all types of clientele.<\/p>\n<p>SUCCESS<br \/>\nThe close collaboration between the Folio Design team and the customers went smoothly. Thanks to responsive, availability-oriented service, customers felt constant consideration at every stage of their project, quickly establishing a climate of trust. The accuracy of Folio Design&#8217;s plans played a crucial role, meeting our vision and desired quality standards.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>As the clients were both project owners and site managers, the attention to detail promoted consistent execution.
