for a young couple and their growing family, this residence is the result of sustained efforts and adeptly overcome constraints both in architectural design and on-site realization. From the initial meetings, the goal was clear; to build a nature-inspired house! A treehouse, modest in size, and adapted to the active lifestyle of the clients. The ideal mandate, just like the wooded, mountainous terrain by the lake.<\/p>\n<p>The first challenge arose precisely from this magnificent site, consisting mainly of steep areas and a small strip that was truly buildable. The shape of the house, long and narrow, is a direct response to this available space.<\/p>\n<p>Almost invisible from the street, the approach to the house is from above and on the narrow side, contributing to the effect of discovery and intimacy. The residence is articulated in 2 volumes, the first rising over 2 levels while the second, in the background, is cantilevered, with storage and outdoor workshop space below. The living areas are located on the upper floor, providing a real sense of living in nature, among the trees literally. Despite the steep slope of the terrain and the north orientation of the lake, the layout of the living areas maximizes sunlight. Even the corridor to the sleeping areas is generously windowed, with views of the treetops and rocky outcrops. On the lower level, a large mudroom caters to the active lifestyle, and a dormitory accommodates guests in a family-friendly spirit, without building unnecessary space. Finally, a large covered terrace, with a kitchen area, is a true extension of the living areas outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>The materiality, all wood, with two neutral colorations, benefits both the reading of the clean volumes, their integration into nature, and the sustainable development objectives of the project. This natural materiality is also integrated indoors, where wooden accents are thoughtful, and concrete floors provide thermal mass and comfort. The entire envelope exceeds insulation and sealing standards, an essential element considering our climate and the longevity of our constructions.<\/p>\n<p>Other more technical aspects also guided the design and realization, including the multiple constraints of steep slope areas and construction in watersheds. Le mandat id\u00e9al, tout comme le terrain bois\u00e9, montagneux et au bord d\u2019un lac.<\/p>\n<p>Le premier d\u00e9fi provenait justement de ce magnifique site, constitu\u00e9 majoritairement de zones de fortes pentes, et d\u2019une petite bande r\u00e9ellement construisible. La forme de la maison, longue et \u00e9troite, est une r\u00e9ponse directe \u00e0 cet espace disponible.<\/p>\n<p>Presque invisible de la rue, l\u2019approche vers la maison se fait en surplomb et du c\u00f4t\u00e9 \u00e9troit, ce qui contribue \u00e0 l\u2019effet de d\u00e9couverte et d\u2019intimit\u00e9. La r\u00e9sidence s\u2019articule en 2 volumes, le premier s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve sur 2 niveaux alors que le second, en arri\u00e8re-plan, est en porte-\u00e0-faux, avec un espace de rangement et d\u2019atelier ext\u00e9rieur en dessous. Les aires de vie sont situ\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tage sup\u00e9rieur, ce qui donne un r\u00e9el sentiment d\u2019habiter la nature, dans les arbres litt\u00e9ralement. Malgr\u00e9 la forte pente du terrain et l\u2019orientation nord du lac, l\u2019am\u00e9nagement des aires de vie permet de maximiser l\u2019ensoleillement. M\u00eame le corridor vers les aires de repos est g\u00e9n\u00e9reusement fenestr\u00e9, avec des vues sur les cimes et les enrochements. A l\u2019\u00e9tage inf\u00e9rieur, un grand \u2018\u2019mudroom\u2019\u2019 r\u00e9pond au mode de vie actif et un dortoir permet d\u2019accueillir la visite dans un esprit familial, sans construire d\u2019espace superflus. Finalement, une grande terrasse couverte, avec espace cuisine, est une r\u00e9elle extension des aires de vie \u00e0 l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur.<\/p>\n<p>La mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9, tout en bois, avec deux colorations neutres, profite \u00e0 la fois \u00e0 la lecture des volumes francs, leur int\u00e9gration dans la nature et aux objectifs de d\u00e9veloppement durable du projet.
